An Oasis of Luxury & Refinement over Zurich: The Perfectionist Dolder Grand

An Introduction to Perfection

We must admit, we are perfectionists!  Over the years, we’ve tried to be more pragmatic.  Still when looking for a getaway or a long weekend escape, we try to match all our top preferences. We seek a resort but at the same time close to the city. Has historic charm but with modern amenities. Embeds a relaxing SPA, and yet also has a fantastic view. It’s definitely not easy to fulfill all these criteria in one place.  Or is it? Our recent stay at the Dolder Grand provided an answer to our dilemma!

A Historic Gem

The Dolder Grand, ZurichPerched majestically on a hill, The Dolder Grand overlooks the vibrant city of Zurich and its serene lake. The entrance itself was grand and inviting, featuring a historic clock and sweeping staircases that seemed to whisper stories of the past 125 years. Art Everywhere

The art

ArtArt is an integral part of The Dolder Grand’s identity, and we were delighted to see how deeply it was woven into the fabric of the hotel. The lobby greeted us with an impressive display, featuring a historic clock and a magnificent chandelier that set the tone for the rest of the hotel’s artistic offerings. As we explored the hotel halls and corridors, we encountered a diverse collection of art, ranging from classic paintings and photography to modern sculptures and pop art. Each piece was thoughtfully curated, adding a unique character to the hotel. Walking from one wing to another felt like a journey through an art exhibition, where every corner revealed a new masterpiece.

Gastronomic Delights

Dining at Restaurant Blooms

Dining at the Saltz, ZurichDining at The Dolder Grand was an exceptional culinary journey. We started at Restaurant Blooms, the hotel’s  vegetarian restaurant awarded by 14 Gault & Millau points, set in a lush garden. The setting was serene and refreshing, surrounded by greenery and the sounds of nature. The chef’s skill was evident in every dish, turning simple vegetables into culinary masterpieces. The next day, we dined at Saltz, a restaurant awarded 15 points by Gault& Millau. The refined menu featured delicacies like lobster and breaded asparagus, which were both exquisite. Breakfast at Saltz was a highlight, with a variety of cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, and unique amuse-bouche. The egg creations were visually stunning and delicious.

Our culinary adventure concluded at the pop-up restaurant, Oriental Getaway. There we enjoyed an array of Lebanese mezza in a romantic setting. The flavors transported us to the heart of Lebanon, making it one of the best Lebanese dining experiences we’ve had outside its homeland.
